  • Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is an Academy Award-winning motion picture visual effects company that was founded in May 1975 by George Lucas and is owned by Lucasfilm. Lucas created the company when he discovered that the special effects department at 20th Century Fox was shut down after he was given the green light for his production of the film Star Wars. The studio originated in Van Nuys, California, later moved to San Rafael, and is now based at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio of San Francisco. Lynwen Brennan who joined the company in 1999, currently serves as the ILM's President and General Manager.

    History
Lucas wanted his 1977 film Star Wars to include visual effects that had never been seen on film before. He first approached Douglas Trumbull, famous for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Trumbull declined, but suggested his assistant John Dykstra. Dykstra brought together a small team of college students, artists and engineers who became the Special Visual Effects department on Star Wars. Alongside Dykstra, other leading members of the original ILM team were Ken Ralston, Richard Edlund, Joe Johnston, Phil Tippett Steve Gawley, and Jeff Mann.
When making The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas reformed most of the team into Industrial Light & Magic in Marin County, California. They have since gone on to produce special effects for nearly three hundred films, including the entire Star Wars saga, The Abyss, the Indiana Jones series, the Harry Potter franchise, the Jurassic Park franchise, the Back to the Future trilogy, many of the Star Trek films, Ghostbusters II, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the entire Terminator sequels, the Transformers films, the Men in Black series, and also provided work for Avatar, alongside Weta Digital.
In addition to their work for George Lucas, ILM also collaborates with Steven Spielberg on nearly every film that he directs, and for many that he produces as well. Dennis Muren has acted as Visual Effects Supervisor on many of these films.
Additionally, the company has created less noticeable effects - such as widening streets, digitally adding more extras to a shot, and inserting the film's actors into famous photos - in movies such as Schindler's List, Forrest Gump, Snow Falling on Cedars, Magnolia, and several Woody Allen films.
ILM established their use of computer-generated imagery when they hired Edwin Catmull from NYIT in 1979. John Lasseter worked for ILM in the early 1980s as a computer animator. The computer graphics division, now known as Pixar, was eventually sold to Steve Jobs, and went on to create the first CG animated feature with Toy Story.
ILM, rather than hide behind barbed wire and high fences, operated from an inconspicuous property in San Rafael, California until 2006. The company hid in plain sight and was known to locals as The Kerner Company. In 2006, when Lucas decided to move locations and focus on digital effects, a management-led team bought the five physical and practical effects divisions of Industrial Light and Magic. The new company, home to the George Lucas Theater, retained the "Kerner" name as Kerner Technologies, Inc. and continues to provide physical effects for major motion pictures, often working with Industrial Light & Magic.
In 2005, ILM extended its operations to Lucasfilm Singapore, which also includes the Singapore arm of Lucasfilm Animation. In 2011, it was announced the company was considering a project-based facility in Vancouver.[1]
As of 2009, ILM has received 15 Best Visual Effects Oscars and 23 additional nominations. It has also received 24 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in recognition of the critical role the company's advances in technology have played in the filmmaking process.
ILM is also the largest visual effects vendor in Hollywood with regards to workforce, with more than 500 artists. It also has one of the largest renderfarms currently available with more than 7500 nodes. ILM revolutionized the motion capture business when they invented IMoCap (Image Based Motion Capture Technology), which is the most advanced technique of motion capture currently available.

It was in the late 1980s when Adobe Photoshop made its first appearance on the world stage. It was used at the Industrial Light & Magic studios as an image-processing program. Photoshop was created by ILM Visual Effects Supervisor John Knoll and his brother Thomas as a summer project. It was used on The Abyss. The Knoll brothers sold the program to Adobe shortly before the film's release.
Adam Savage, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci of Mythbusters fame have all worked at Industrial Light & Magic.
Industrial Light & Magic is also famous for their commercial work. Their clients include Energizer Holdings, Nike, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Budwiser and other companies.
Actor Masi Oka worked on several major productions of ILM as an animator, including Revenge of the Sith before joining the cast of the NBC show Heroes as Hiro Nakamura. Oka still works at ILM.
American film director David Fincher worked at ILM for four years in the early 1980s, shortly working at John Korty's Korty Films, and the man who influenced George Lucas into opening his own company in the San Francisco area

  • Been watching film Transformers Dark of the Moon? The film dealt with 2D animation, 3D, Real D and IMAX, its spectacular images. Success is not just a robot movie of Michael Bay, but also the success of the Hollywood film animator ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) visual ef-fect a company founded by George Lucas.

What is clear, visual effects Questioning the big screen, Hollywood is an expert. With the ability of technology owned by filmmakers there, i could say anything the imagination can be realized visually. The sophistication of visual effects in films such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, Kung Fu Hustle, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Harry Potter, and many others.

But you know what was the animator on the film The film was one of them is People Indonesia

"The growth of the animation studios in Asia has been very large. It's a big opportunity for the animators Indonesia to take part. Even within one to two years to open hundreds of jobs in this field. So, get ready to learn and grasp this opportunity, "said Deswara Aulia, an animator of Frameworks in a seminar some time ago.

You know the animated movie Shrek? Yes, the film involves the production of Hollywood animator from Indonesia in it. The characters are funny in the story of the life of the Ogre is one of them created Sastrawinata Griselda, an animator who lives in California, USA.

He worked for Dreamwork famous animation studio. This animated film company that has been producing many famous films such as Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Monster Aliens, as well as many other well-known.

Now, if the greatness of the Transformers movie is the work of designers animators of a student from Indonesia who was an apprentice at the Company's Comics Devil's Due Publishing, Chicago, USA.

Yes, he is a Lie Christiawan greeting or known by Chris Lie. Now, Chris Lie involved in making animation in several Hollywood films.

Call it the third Transformers, GI Joe, to the latest Spiderman 4. In fact, today he is also completing several projects games, like StarWars and Lord of the Rings.

There is also Andre Surya who has been dealing mainly with the production of animated films of Hollywood films. Andre name appears in the credits the movie Iron Man, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Iron Man 2, as a digital artist. He is also involved in the execution of the film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Surrogates, also Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Men born in Jakarta, October 1, 1984 this is the only digital artist from Indonesia in the division of Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) Lucas Films Singapore. Lucas film itself is one of the world's most successful production company, founded in 1971 by George Lucas, Star Wars director.

Now the various animation schools to score a lot of animators reliably established in Indonesia. The development of the animation world has indeed changed dramatically over 10 years ago. This was in line with the development of computer graphics application called computer generated imagery (CGI).

An animator, Andri Kharisma Putra, believe, the technical quality of animation Indonesia no less good.
However, he acknowledged, animation, Indonesia still needs support, not from the technical side, but from the opportunity and confidence to continue to grow.

So what exactly should possess an animator? It takes creativity in this regard. animation world is not solely dependent on technology. "It's about creativity. World of technology is moving very fast, but it also should be coupled with the development of creativity. That's what makes it worth more, "he said.

    How to make Vista wallpaper

  • Hi Brother, I will now give a tutorial to make vista wallpaper with Photoshop.
    ok, let's get started ...

    Step 1
Before we can actually get started on the lighting effects, we need to create a background for the effect. We can’t simply use any background we choose, but rather create an appropriate canvas to begin with. Find a photograph to use as the basic palette for your background. It can be any image really… just make sure it has a lot of lights and darks in it. Alternatively, you can Download the Attached Photo Sample and work with the same photograph I’ll be using.

    Step 2
From here, we need to apply a very strong Gaussian Blur to our Photograph. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur, and bring the slider to something high. You really want to get rid of all the detail in the photo, and have all the colors mesh together. I applied a Gaussian Blur of 75.

    Step 3
Now we are going to drastically change our background by adding a Color Balance Adjustment Layer. To create this layer, go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance. A “New Layer” box may pop up, just click Ok through that. Next you’ll see 3 different sliders, as well as 3 separate ranges to choose from (Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights). At this point, it’s really just about experimenting with the sliders in each range until you find a suitable result. If you’re using the photograph I supplied, these were the values I used: Shadows: -37, -40, 7 Midtones: 15, 62, 0 Highlights: -34, 0, 69

    Step 4
That’s it for the background. We’re done with it. You may choose to edit your Color Balance layer later on (just double click the icon next to it), but otherwise, we can move onto the effect. To begin, select the Elliptical Marquee Tool from your toolbar. Make a large selection, spanning all the way across your canvas. You may need to move your selection while making it in order to make such a large selection. If you need to do this, hold the spacbar while dragging your mouse (Don’t let go of the left mouse button). You should end up with a slightly curved selection that covers at least half the canvas.

    Step 5
Create a new Layer (Above the Adjustment Layer, mind you), and grab your Brush tool from the toolbar. Choose the default brush, and then modify the size to something large, such as 200-300, and set the hardness to 0. Choose White as your foreground color. This part may take some trial and error, but essentially, you are going to brush just the very inside of the selection you just made. Try to brush evenly across the whole selection.

    Step 6
Easy enough, huh? Set the blending mode of this layer to Overlay. Deselect everything (Ctrl + D or Select > Deselect). Now, transform this layer so that is is positioned near-vertically along the right side of the canvas. To transform, go to Edit > Free Transform, or Ctrl + T.

    Step 7
Repeat steps 5 and 6 once or twice, and use smaller brush sizes (and possibly a larger brush size). Be sure to put each new band of light onto a new layer!

    Step 8
Now that we have 2 or 3 different bands of light, we won’t need to make anymore of them. Instead, you can Duplicate the layers you’ve made, and Freely transform them to become new shapes. Remember, Ctrl + T to transform. You can get some interesting effects by holding the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift Keys while dragging the transformation nodes.

    Step 9
That’s really all there is too it! For add effect, you can add some extra color into it using Color Balance Layers. In order to do this, Select several of your light layers (Ctrl + Shift + Click a Layer in the Layers Panel), and then add a new Color Balance Adjustment layer (Like we did in step 3). The Color Balance Adjustment layer will automatically create a layer mask so that it only gets applied over the selection you made. Just be sure that these new adjustment layers are on top of the lighting layers.
